Are there people here, on THIS site, who are offended by certain words in the language? Particularly curse words?

Fuck no. Profanity doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I celebrate it.
I do, however, detest the use of the "n" word, in relation to anyone.
Or calling women "C U Next Tuesday(s)".
Those two words are really repugnant to me.
All others aren't a big deal. They're just words.
And yes, I realize my distaste for those two words is rather contradictory to the
rest of my comment. I don't fucking care.

Is that a curse word though? I find it more of a racists/ignorance word and when I hear or read the use of it, I become a straight up not to be reckoned with.

@HoaryMarmot It's what I do. 😉

@Kimberclimbs The OP asked if there are 'any' words that were offensive.

I did have an experience with one woman being offended by the word cunt. I wasn't using it to insult anyone on here, either.

What insults me is those holier-than-thou people who try to say cursing shows a lack of intelligence or creativity or bullshit like that. Science has proven that people who curse a lot tend to be more intelligent lol

I use profanity often and I am a good and decent person (warts an all). I use it to emphasize something but rarely direct it at any one person.

I’m cool with curse words, except the F word. I find the word fart extremely offensive.

@Donotbelieve unsubscribed

Words don't scare me.
Fuck may be one of the most useful words in the English language.

@Stacey48
Fuckin right.

Words don’t offend. Actions can. But nobody has a right to be unoffended.

I consider any word that is meant to cause pain to any culture a curse word. The whole objective to cursing is control and hear me and to get attention. Even when a word is said out of text. It can still cause harm... am i guilty of this? Possibly..... because i am known to say (hell).

I'm not offended by swear words or bad language. I am offended by hate speech though. People suffer and lose their lives through hate speech.

My new year's resolution for 2018 was to stop using all hate speech. So now I don't use the 'N' for black people (I never used that anyway) or the 'B' word for women.

At first it was difficult because old habits die hard but I slowly began to realise why people use such words - because they are powerful and they are powerful because they are borne of hate. They carry a sting.

So now I use words like: "vindictive headcase" or "spiteful asshole" instead.

Words only have the power you give them.

Why did you say this? Thats terrible.

3

Not a single word. When provoked, the NJ comes out of me quickly even though I haven't lived there for the majority of my life and I can make a sailor blush.

@Kbdank71 it's not a bag thing. I'm proud of where I was raised but I'm glad I left.

You might mistake a preference for courtesy as offense.
Cursing is a cheap way of grabbing attention, and it is so over used it's white noise now.
Take out the shit fucks and say what is left. That's all you said anyway.

I wholeheartedly fucking disagree. It shows impact and expresses much more emotions. For instance my first comment comes off more aggressive and angry than if I just said "I disagree".

Also it releases endorphins that help feel better. That's why when you stub your toe you're more likely to curse

@LadyAlyxandrea if I stub my toe every 15 minutes for 30 years, I'll stop saying anything. Endorphins get bored of the same old same old also.

It is considered rude to use profanity in public. There are a lot of nice people no here and I don't think they would faint at the use of a curse word.

2

I think there is a curse word blocker option on th site for those who want to use it.

2

Nope

2

Not me! Most of them should not. But with out an apparent reason many might find it silly.

2

Language, be it verbal or written, is an evolving medium. Common use words today, were swear words years ago. Swear words today will be common use in another years, and a whole new set of words will be called swear words. This means, that there is no such thing as swear words except what people have a personal bias against. Fact.

2

Context matters. I can't think of any word that I find absolutely, regardless of context, so offensive that it should never be used.

Words are nothing more than words. But words can hurt others. In public it can be impolite to walk around swearing at whatever. Parents probably have hidden these 'bad' words from the children and are offended when heard (the kids have already heard them). Teach your children that these words are just words and explain it to them (don't hide them) as they come up. Tell them that there are places that it will work against them -- classroom, in front of police, in a courtroom -- but amongst friends and family that it doesn't bother, go for it.

I fucking hope not! (;

Nope. I mostly focus on intent. Words in and of themselves don't bother me. If someone's intent is malicious and it seems like it will lead to action then that's when I attack. Even then it's probably not the mature thing to do, but sometimes it's necessary. Most people are all talk though.

If someone on the internet starts cursing at me, it's whatever.

If someone like a comedian says a "bad" word, so what? It rolls off my back. Even if it's about men, or about my nationality etc. So what?

It is also a myth that if someone curses a lot that they are dumb.

1

Not offended. I use them here, may have been blocked becuase l use them, and l could care less. Sometimes curse words are just what is needed to express anger or humor.

1

I'm offended by words that begins with the letter "F" and ends in "uck" ... like Firetruck.

I think it just shows that you have not got the grasp of your language and lack of control ?
