Working in the service industry is horrible. I hate every second of it; anyone got some horrible stories from part time work or working in the service industry they'd like to share 😂

It's the worst. I used to work at Macy's in Manhattan. Constant questions that are either dumb or just the same every day. My department used to be in the basement, and people would come in through street level and ask if it was something like the 3rd floor etc. Then you have customers who are rowdy or think they are owed something just because you work there. Like you're supposed to be their slave and they can say anything they want to you. I almost got into a couple of fights with male customers. The managers are worse than the customers sometimes. They treat you like robots like you don't get tired, or they give you responsibilities that far exceed your pay. Your feet are always hurting and you're expected to be talking to a customer every second of your 8-12 hour shift. You're responsible for talking to the customers constantly, cleaning the sales floor when customers make a mess of it, cleaning out the fitting rooms, answering phones, fulfilling orders, covering areas that aren't yours, depositing cash to the vault, they don't want you talking to your co-workers at all, you have to fulfill your sales quota every day no matter what, open up credit accounts (and managers don't care how you do it, short of fraud....and even some of them don't care about that either), and more. The pay was capped after a while too. New negotiations in contracts were made to screw workers. "Back in the day", workers could make up to like $50 an hour on the old contract. New contracts have some workers who have worked there for 20+ years making $19 an hour. Most workers make anywhere from like $8 an hour to $13 an hour because the turnover is so high. You can also sell $300,000 to $1,000,000 worth of merchandise a year and still make only $22,000 a year, unless you're in a commission department. Those are few and far between though. I've seen some of those workers make anywhere from like $50K to $75K a year in a good year.

I used to work installing carpet. It's much more tiring and backbreaking at times. I used to work from like 7am to 12pm doing carpet on early days and I would come home and fall asleep as soon as I sat down. That's how grueling it could be sometimes, and I preferred that to retail service. That says a lot.

Almost modern day slavery! But unfortunately it's real. May be the only difference is that you can quit, which will probably lead to even worse consequence unless done correctly with bigger and better goals.

I get yelled at and called a liar a lot. It's not the young people either. It's middle aged and up.

What irritates me the most is the ones who clearly think they are better than me- will maintain eye contact and smirk when I greet them but make a point of not responding.

Create an anonymous blog and get your anger out. I've been there. Rude customers are the worst.

When I worked at subway, I had to deal with an elderly woman who was rude to me from the moment she walked into the store. She kept changing her mind after I had put certain vegetables/meats/condiments on and then asking me to remake the entire sandwich. She should have received a discount for being a senior, but I couldn't bring myself to punch it in after how terrible she was to me.

Get used to it as it is only going to get worse.
