From the "Penthouse Sexicon" of some 50 years ago:-

Adult: One old enough to do it.
Adulterer: One who does it
Adultery: It

The discussion in the classroom ended like this.
" Well", said Sally, hands on hands on her hips, " I don't care how big your daddy is, my mommy's an adulteress too."

🙂

That's... Pretty darn accurate

Adultery is no longer even relevant in Canadian divorce court as grounds for a divorce.

That's an interesting snippet, indeed.

What??? Why not? I mean, that's one of the best reasons for getting a divorce... Is adultery that prevalent in Canada??? So much so that the state is like, ah, fuck it. Who isn't cheating on their spouse?

'Adultery' along with any other form of blame, has not been admissible as a reason for divorce in Australia since the early 1970s. The only reason for divorce is 'irretrievable breakdown of marriage'. Why would any responsible adult want to hand over policing of their relationship to the government or church anyway?

@Kafir Canadians determined a long time ago that government has no place in the bedrooms of our country. Irreconcilable differences is the main reason for divorce in Canada, where someone put their prick is not an issue.

@Surfpirate okay, true enough. But for most, adultery is irreconcilable difference. Just saying.

@Kafir I would say it was for me but there are plenty who would disagree. Open marriages aren't as uncommon as they used to be and for some finances come before fidelity. I would probably still be married to my first wife if I hadn't committed the unforgivable act of losing all my money in the crash of 88', that was the deal breaker for her. Everyone is different when it comes to affairs of the heart and to marriage for that matter.

@Surfpirate Yeah. That crash cost me an absolute fortune too. But my wife is pretty pragmatic, and we still had enough cash left to buy a small house etc. So it wasn't a major issue - luckily.

@Surfpirate, @Kafir my philosophy on adultery has always been "sauce for goose is sauce for the gander.

@Petter you were lucky indeed, I lost it all and was an extra half a mill in the hole, not paper losses but real assets gone.

@Surfpirate This was money I had used to buy "solid, sensible shares" on the stock market, rather than keep it all in interest bearing accounts. Fortunately I still had some cash assets. That crash left me quarter of a million quid poorer.

Is adultery relevant if we're not religious?

Moot point, that. I say it isn't relevant. My wife says it is. 😉 😉

@Petter I'd pay attention to the wife's version, divorce can be expensive

@psycheworks 😉 😉
