Just got my first 24 hour Facebook ban, for commenting on a post about religion. It was the usual old "If you don't like homosexuality because the bible says it's wrong, then you shouldn't eat shellfish, get tattoos etc."
I followed up with something along the lines of "And the bible says it's okay to rape, as long as you marry your victim afterwards, and be sure to get a fair price when you sell your daughter."
Goes against their community guidelines, apparently. Meanwhile, they're happy to do nothing about obvious scammers.
Oh wait. How can I be sure I got a fair price when I sold my daughter?
It depends on her talents. I hear “unquestionably obedient” is worth at least 2 beasts of burden!
@SunshineBee Dang … if that’s the criterion ..I’d not get a plug nickel for my two
...so how many points do you get..
Dunno. But it feels like I'm part of a (not very exclusive) club now
@NicoleCadmium ..If I didn’t have this place to vent ...I’d likely be feeling your pain, too I suspect my fb friends might think I’ve found a life … little do they know, I’ve ‘found this’
I think Facebook's algorithms are flagging things out of an abundance of caution right now, then giving 24 hours for a human to review. I posted a number of items on Marketplace last weekend, and five items were flagged for review, for "violating community standards." They were graphic novels. We're talking Spider-Man, y'all!!!
Some folks can't take hearing what the bible actually says.
Can you share which group it was? I've been kicked out of several ID/IC/CS groups, usually because I complain that when a member runs out of argument, they consign me to hell.
It was just a comment on one of Lizzie the Lezzy's public posts.
A measely 24 hours??? When facebook first banned me several years ago... it was for 2 weeks and I was never told why. Hard to say whether you're lucky or unlucky.
Badge of honor, daVinci!
They've probably realised that a week is long enough to break the addictive cycle, and some of those banned for such a long time, don't come back.
Microsoft routinely hands out 2 week bans for swearing on Xbox Live. But they know you're tied to their service through console ownership, and will have to come back if you want to engage in online gaming without buying a competitor's console.
Sadly the bots that key in on certain words do the banning. It is too expensive to have humans do this task. Bots do not understand biblical references.
I've seen people discussing rape in the context of rape prevention. There doesn't seem to be any automatic objection to that. I still think most bans and removals are human triggered (one or more people clicking the 'report' button.) The fact that this kicked in about 8 hours after I posted would suggest that it isn't a fully automated process. I think @David_Cooper has it spot on below. Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough that I was disagreeing with the bible on this point, and my words were taken as it being okay to rape (under certain circumstances) because the Bible says so.
That lot (the bible thumpers) are always cherry picking certain favorite scriptural passages while ignoring the inconvenient bits. That is, until they feel emboldened by a perceived shift in social norms. Then they let their true racist/bigoted/genocidal colors fly.
I'm so embarrassed! I-- sob-- have never been banned from FB....... Please don't 86 me...... I'm very repentant.
This is my first time. Do I get a badge?
@NicoleCadmium Yup!!!
FB banned me for life
Goodness.....what did you do?
@IAmLove a guy was online stalking my 14 year old nephew. He would comment rude sexual things, get blocked then come back under a different name but same photo. I started messaging him tell him to stop then he started to do the same thing to me. Finally he went to far, I started looking at his multiple profiles and figured out where he worked. The only car wash in Olongopo Philippines. I flew over and knocked him out and posted his unconscious bloody pic as my profile picture. I was not charged with anything but he complained enough about the picture FB gave me the option to remove it or be banned. 14 years now and I don't miss FB, I did open a fake account at first but now I don't bother with it. Only a bunch of idiots posting pictures of their dinner, or political non sense. Who needs that?
@Krypto-Knight it seems a number of people set up fake profiles. I,almost got caught up with a very handsome man in uniform. When he asked me for money I blocked him. I think FB needs to be more diligent about fakes. ...and...BTW...I think you did the right thing.
@IAmLove Thanx, I have not regretted it, well I do wish I would have spent more than a day in the Philippines.
Bang on Nicole..... FB is cool with people trying to scam others. Whether is monetary, your identity or erm your religious views. However as soon as you talk facts it’s a no-no.... the stupidity is due to offence caused.... utter BS
I posted this on FB and got two weeks ban(Gee,I wonder why).
[agnostic.com]
That is clearly disgusting and not in a numerous or clever way
That is strange! I really don’t know where we are going...everything seems to be against someone’s religion!
