I have been meaning ask a question to all of you, but I am really busy reading and responding as well as I can to your posts, and then I forget.

Do you remember your first car? I was born 1952, and my first car was a 1952 VW Beetle. I love that car. IT had kilometer speedo, an 36 hp. I had purchase a fire extinguisher that looked like a can of shaving cream for about a dollar, for just in case.

Wouldn,t you know, but had fuel line leak, and I looked in my mirror and could see flames. I thought "O" know! But I remember I had a fire extinguisher. The fire was out of control, and just barely opened the engine hood, and sprayed under the hood. To my amazement the fire went out, and I opened the hood, and spayed it some more just to be sure the fire was out. I tightened the fuel fitting with tools I always carried, and fired it up (pun intended), and drove home.

A little bit of wiring replacement, some sanding and spray paint on the hood and she was as as before. I am glad I was an Eagle Scout and was prepared.

At least I did one thing right🙂

Oh yes, it was a 1966 Olsmobile F-85 that I bought with my own money at the age of 16.

A 1966 Truimph Herald. It had a 50 hp four banger with the terrible Su carbs (the Brits in the group know of these). The big problem with this car was what was known as 'swing axles'. This was an independant rear suspension with tranverse spring. When the car was on a lift the wheels loooked like ther were broken. I replaced the rear U-joints constantly due to a poor design. I loved this car, though, and made many road trips. My dad inherited and drove it into the ground. It bacame a breeding place for numerous squirrels.

I loved them, the vitesse 2.2...

@Bhope101 Yes, the six cylinder. I had just bought a 67 MGB Gt BRG with all the trimmings ($4,000 a lot of money in those days) when I got my draft notice and didn't take possession. The dealer said he would have no trouble selling it.

'68 P. O. S. Camaro in '78. 3 months later a '70 Suburban with 129,000 miles on it. My Dad & I drove it another 120,000, replacing or rebuilding many starters, solinoids and alternators outside, especially when it was below 40°F, windy, dark and raining (uphill both ways). My favorite was number 3, the '70 Mach 1 Mustang in '80.

1970 VW bug. By that point, the horsepower was up around 42. Had to scrape frost off of the inside of the windshield in the winter. AM radio though baby!
