It is a good film, specially because, as you said, it is also refreshingly funny. However, for the best (IMO) Sci-Fi and Fantasy movie, watch "Dune". One of those rare cases when the movie is definitely better than the book!

Oh, I own that one too. But I like the Dino De Laurentis version better than the TV mini series. And I also love the soundtrack, Toto put out a great score for it.
@Georgy303 I didn't know it was a TV mini series! I own the DVDs, and I thought it was just a more modern rendering of the Novel!
