I know it's still six years away, but does anyone have fun plans for the next total solar eclipse?
Not yet, but SIU in Carbondale, Illinois is where I attended college and currently live less than a three-hour drive from there. It is a little town in southern Illinois that was very close to the 100% eclipse peak in 2017 and will also be very close to the 100% peak in 2024.
They are already making plans for the 2024 eclipse:
I went all the way to Mongolia to see one, awhile back. (Not that I was really interested in the eclipse, but it was the best way I ever found to get to/travel within Mongolia.) There were people on that trip who go to EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM! I thought that was just a tad ODD...
Sounds like Grateful Dead fans.
@kiramea HAH! Well said! As I mentioned...I'd always wanted to see Mongolia and this was set up by USC, so it was all arranged. It was fun to see the local folks enjoying the event (we had brought special observing glasses to protect their eyes.) The truth was that the kids probably thought WE were as interesting as the event. Some of our group treated the thing like a RELIGIOUS experience....meditating, etc.
