I believe we are saying the same thing our parents said about rock, all sounds the same, too loud, trashy lyrics and sexual overtones. We have become 'Them'. The only music genre I can agree with is Disco music being the same beat, tempo and mindless lyrics. That's my opinion and I'm welcome to it...LOL!

It explains why I listen so little to modern music and I favor the small scene of beginning musicians. That, when I listen music, I choose from the thousands of "old" music and artists from before the eighties. I even start to like classical music more and more. Spotify? or other streaming services, I never subscribed. I hate to pay for what I don't use . Radio? I prefer conversation-radio where I can hear opinions based on argument. It's nice to hear that there is a reason for why I stayed in the past with my music taste (although there are still some incidental songs from the present time that I like, even if they have hammered in my subconscious like religions practice. Brainwashing!

I have to agree with a lot of what is said in the video. I'm a professional musician (couple of degrees, have taught students from beginners to college and adults and play in several groups in the Austin, Texas area). As my main area of interest is jazz, I stopped listening to much of radio back in high school. And the situation has just gotten worse over the years. To me it is bland, same ol' thing repetition for the most part. Interesting things do slip through once in a while, but nothing really Different. So much is based on the visual aspect now. And with the recording tools available now, you can make the worse performances sound like musical genius. For an example, there is a recording of a live performance by Kanye West trying to do Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. He can't sing that to save his life, not live.

But you can fix all that in the studio. I have the same kind of software that is used for hard disc recording, and I refer to it jokingly as "Turd Polisher 3000" because of all the things you can do to clean up a bad recording. Another example I'll use with some people who don't really get it is Kenny G. My question is: would anybody be listening to this guy if he was a balding fat guy with a scraggly beard in his 60s. Same for singers. You don't have singers these days, not "popular" ones anyway, that look like someone like Bessie Smith, one of the great blues singers of all time. Another part of the problem, though, is people just don't want to spend the time to understand what they are listening to. I'm mainly a jazz musician. Jazz will never be that popular because it takes some actual effort from the listener to understand what is going on. Most people want background music. And if you are working or something like that, fine. But that shouldn't be the only choice you have. But like so many other things it comes down to money. People like a certain song/sound? Great, lets make a ton more of the same thing. Like all the sequels in movies and TV shows. Anyway, just as an example, here is one of the craziest things I know of out there. This is from several years ago, when you could still find a rare show like this on TV. I can almost assure you have never heard anything like this before, as something like this doesn't get exposure.

Well that was enteresting information on what makes me listen. I knew something had a hold on me. I thought it was the hot babes singing and the sexy dancing....lol.

Tame it, clip its wings, stick it in a box, flog it cheap... It's the same as everything — remember when trains and buses had varnished wooden trims? Cars had funky, knobbly bits and chrome? Buildings had interesting, ornamental bits? Everything has to be cheaper, easier to produce and more homogeneous.

Wonder if there'll ever be a kickback against it or if it's a one-way street?
