Well, I was glad Clinton lost, and cautiously optimistic that Trump wouldn't be too much of a disaster while simultaneously goading the Dems to make much needed reforms ... the past year has been disappointing on both counts. The Dems seem to be doubling down on the strategy that cost Clinton the White House, and Trump. OMG. My level of horror has been slowly rising as it becomes painfully apparent the man really is as stupid and incompetant as he comes off as. And here's an interesting article about his tenure in the White House ... [nymag.com]

Come back, President Obama!

I still fail to understand the level of stupidity it requires to think Trump was a good choice. Here is a little advice for the future when picking the lesser of two evils; less evil is always better.

@Druvius , sorry but I am Canadian and from where I was watching Trump has been an evil self absorbed shit all of his life or did you miss that and Hilary was a competent educated experienced women but, I guess you missed that, too, living in a nation obsessed with celebrity.

@Druvius soooo what you're saying is she was more of the same; status quo, and so you chose a New York shyster? An unstable con man. A reality TV person?

@Druvius , You just described Trump perfectly, an outsider are you kidding me he is turning your nation into an oligarchy. You do understand that an oligarchy is the perfect system for corporations and those that own them.

4

@briangs Hillary Clinton has been investigated more than Richard Nixon. It's tough being a female politician. The US does not want a woman president and will do everything they can to stop it. Including putting a narcissistic idiot mad man in charge. All of the negative things you mentioned about the clintons is probably a typical Friday night for the idiot in Chief

6

You could tell by the look on his face on election night He was just feeding his ego as a presidential candidate. As president, he must be absolutely f** miserable, which by the way, brings me a tremendous amount of pleasure. Narcissistic personalities despise any kind of criticism.

Yes, he looked terrified learning of his ‘victory!’ He’d been planning on harvesting and likely marketing to his basket of deplorables … after stirring them up to further target Hillery.. I’d love to see him forced to watch the various parodies of himself on about every late night talk program ...I wonder how many TV’s he’s gone through 😉

Republicans have been clamouring for a government which is run like a business for years. So who do they put in the drivers seat when they finally get what they want? Is it a highly admired and respected business mogul who has built a business empire from the ground up? Nope. They give us Trump. A trust fund baby and a life long charlatan who would be a Wal-Mart door greeter right now if not for the 22 billion that daddy left him.

I'd love to know how Trump looked from inside the USA. I was in NY this time last year and was surprised how little news coverage there was on him considering how close he was to being sworn in, and how many terrible things he'd said since the election!

Sadly I came back to the UK before I could really gauge how people felt about him... Aside from a handful of protestors outside Trump Tower.

4

OK, Bernie would have been my choice, but I am not of the USA. I did not want to see Clinton there, I don't trust. Trump IMHO seems so blatantly out of line that he might not be hiding as much.

7

Watching this circus from Canada.. holy shit. If you voted for this idiot you got what you deserve but the nice people of the USA got screwed. He's a madman, an imbecile, and all the other adjectives you can think of. Glad I don't live in the USA.

I'm from the UK. It seemed obvious from the outside that Trump was just plain dangerous, but I wonder what it looked like from inside the US?

Amen sister. Do you like to share your popcorn?

@Rufus_Maximus Rufus, inside, it looked like a slam-dunk (basketball..) for Hillary Clinton. Trump was the otherside’s ‘hail mary’ (stupid football). Sanders, ‘the independant’ fucking up the Democrat’s primary, was the wild card. Though his ‘team’ played as dirty as any, the Russians only leaked negativity about the Democrats.. As Liberals and Idealist’s were pissed (angry), they sat on their hands, or threw away their vote to a ‘third party’ candidate; our winner-take-all system gives nothing to them.. Trump expected to lose, ‘It’s Rigged’ becoming his mantra. But the crazed religious republican marched to the polls … as the liberal democrat purists didn’t..

It was ‘a fluke.’ But even that close.. on the heels of W Bush… we’ve no real excuse.. Keep in mind, the Russians helped! Note other nations now attempting to guard themselves from such ‘social media manipulation.’ But for us, and perhaps the world, it’s too late … and to find anyone ‘proud’ of having helped ..is beyond my comprehension…

No, you have to get your own popcorn LOL.. I love popcorn too much to share! @HeathenFarmer

@witchymom I think you're absolutely right. It's almost impossible for a woman in politics to win. The fact is this no one on either side of the aisle had a problem with Hillary until she started talking about the presidency then all hell broke loose. And we have this Macho ass culture who is always going to trust a bloated male blathering b*** over a female

@witchymom , because of the education my parents who were reasonably educate and lived and fought in WWII, I've a very good understanding how populism can lead people to the wrong choices and how populists can target different ethnic or religious groups to achieve corporatism which by any other word is fascism. Trump has used these things to gain the support of evangelicals and other social conservative to achieve his real agenda which is to make his class of people and the corporations they own even richer than the change rout by Reagan allowed. As for racist that has always been the rot of the fabric of the US it was too easy to rekindle it. The targeting of illegals was easy too, all he had to do was to appeal to the poor under employed claiming that they were lesser people stealing their jobs. These things and many more point to the greatest failure in the US which has been and is the near total failure of the public education system to provide a consistent well funded education across the US; something that he made one of his first priorities to destroy even more.

You totally nailed it. !! 100% . @HeathenFarmer

2

I wanted Mike Bloomberg. He's been a successful mayor, he's built a media empire, he's an engineer, he's Jewish--what's not to like?

6

I'm optimistic. I figured we'd all be dead by August.

At this point I'm hoping so. Lol

7

Clinton was infinitely more qualified then Trump. Anyone who knew about Trump could have told you what to expect.

I'm not surprised by any of Trumps crap. He is a con man he always has been always will be. I cannot fathom how anybody could vote for him. The fact of the matter is Hillary Clinton won the election by over 3 million votes. The E.C gave us this crude orange dancing bear.

2

Yah, that’s what handing every branch of the US government over to a maniacal party that’s become a religion unto itself will do… When the Dem’s last had all 3, we got as close to a national healthcare plan as ever in the US.. When the R’s last had it, Bush Jr. led us into two wars… Now -- shall I thank you?

Varn Level 8 Jan 3, 2018

@briangs Seems the US Supreme Court disagrees with you… But if you wanna debate the Republican’s alternative to Hillarycare, I suggest you fire up that question elsewhere - my points stand ~

@briangs we're talking about Healthcare. We're not talking about dick enlargers. When people in a country are dying because they can't afford health care because of a for-profit system I think is a human right. Our Healthcare System was not going to be able to handle billions and billions of people going to the emergency room due to lack of any other option. I was uninsured before the Affordable Care Act because the cheapest insurance that I found was over $1,000 a month just for me.

@briangs For a supposed Agnostic/ Atheist, you’re too far gone for me… And something like, “The SCOTUS was wrong, period, end of story.” ‘End of story?’ ...honestly, you’re not here to learn ~

I was against Hillary from the very start and now they are saying Michelle in 2020??? Some wanted Jeb??? We already had Bush I and II. I don't get it. Why do people want to elect spouses, sons, brothers? It's pathetic. Might as well have a monarchy. Get some new blood in there. I will admit that when faced with the prospect of a Trump tv personality presidency ( we already had a Hollywood movie/tv president) I held my nose, put my tail between my legs and voted for obviously more qualified Hillary.

11

You say you were "cautiously optimistic that Trump wouldn't be too much of a disaster". Now I think I would have to call you a man of faith, belief in the absence of evidence, although I would have thought the evidence would have pointed to Trump as a total disaster. I'm sorry, it's your country, but it's our world he's wrecking balling. Noam Chomsky, the American intellectual I'm sure Conservatives American love to hate, has called the Republican Party the most dangerous political party in the world. Indeed. It's not that there aren't more crazy parties in the world, rather it's that none have the ability to give the US Presidency to jokes like GW Bush and D.Trump. And who are at the centre of the Republican Party? Religious reactionaries.. And so we come back to religion, as so often do. All roads lead to.....

I can't believe my country elected him. I feel ashamed and embarrassed and I fear how much damage he can do before he is out. The one good thing about his presidency is that it outed all the closet bigots.

It’s tragic to realize how clearly the outside would views our fish bowl. And infuriates me to find ‘just enough’ inside it were fuckedup enough, by whatever means, to allow ‘this’ to happen - again. Yes, the two worst Presidents in US history ..if punctuated by one of our best…

Your parliamentary systems and socialist societies are now proven beyond doubt superior to our cutthroat capitalism and corporate democracy. My nation, one I’d have once sacrificed my life for - has betrayed the intent of our founders and brought shame and disgrace upon us. Show no mercy… as you’re now in charge, and we deserve the consequences ~

@Druvius Why did you say she would have been a disaster? I was a Bernie supporter that voted for her because I couldn't stomach trump but I can't see why she would be a disaster.

the HRC hatred from the right was always ironic and sadly amusing to me. during the Clinton administration they accomplished RW things republicans at the time could only dream of. They're why pharmaceuticals were deregulated (thanks for the Viagra commercials ya'll) , the mortgage bubble happened on their watch (Thanks Phil Gramms!) .
Welfare "reform". They're DINOs pure & simple.
They also had their 8 years.
Altho I held my nose & begrudgingly ticked off the box for her did not feel she was "entitled" to become annointed, despite the electoral college dismissing the popular vote.
We're in quite a mess. But the DNC has a hand in that too.
The demise of Al Franken's senate presence is the last straw for me. Imma just watch shit burn.
NO country is immune to herd think, and apparently it's our turn to pay the price for allowing oligarchy.

@briangs Did my post sound like I was a fan?
The loophole to allow the advent of the mortgage bubble was introduced by Phil Gramm 🌈 Tx. Nobody was paying attention.
A GREAT docu movie on this is "The Big Short", and it's happening again. In our area house prices are stupid 2.0

@Qualia Why there is a rainbow where an R should be is beyond me. smh let's try that again, Phil Gram 🌈 (republican Tx) helped usher in the legislative bill that allowed for the mortgage bubble loophole.

LOL @ newt gingrinch. OmG . Seriously.

Many Americans chose to believe the worst rumors about a qualified woman, but ignored the worst truths about an unqualified man. Now we have an incompetent blowhard who’s just itching to get into a war.

CS60 Level 7 Jan 3, 2018

@ druvius such as?

14

Sorry if I offend anyone but I never understood why people hated HC so much.
On the face of it she must be the most honest politician ever. She went through a 30-year hatchet job from the right including the media and they never found more than rumors and innuendo. I doubt any other politician in American history could have come close to enduring what she did.

Exactly!!!! Putin hates her because he knew he couldn't manipulate her. The republicans have always hated her, and did everything in their power to discredit her. The liberals hated her because she wasn't liberal enough for them. She'd be doing a much better job than the current piece of trash occupying the Oval. She's not perfect, and not all that likable, but she was more qualified for the job than anyone else who was running. It's pathetic that people couldn't get over their irrational hate for the woman and voted for that miserable, lying, con man. Oh, and I don't think you need to apologize for offending anyone. Anyone who voted for 45 needs to apologize for supporting that FRAUD. Now THAT was offensive.

I agree . In any event - even at her worst , she would not have been as damaging as the orange buffoon we have now !
And she can speak whole sentences. How I miss that !

@KKGator I suspect the Russians spread mis-information and rumors about HRC and by doing so directly impacted our election. The Russians assisted in splitting the Democratic Party.

Rich ..this is damn rare coming from me - but Amen! Same here. I admired her more than Bill from the moment I became familiar with her. She is a Shero! And, the one to be feared by the right, including Russia.. Active as a Dem for decades ...countless battles alongside now lifelong friends ..it was hideously depressing to watch so many of them fall off the wagon for Hillary.. It wasn’t me, or you - though we and those we love will suffer this loss for ...ever ~

@CS60 I agree. Did you notice that Jill Stein was at the same table with Flynn and Putin? I don't think that is a coincidence. Democrats have allowed themselves to be split by Nader and Stein. Both times won the popular vote and still lost the electoral college.

I agree with what Obama said, Clinton was the most qualified presidential candidate ever. Trump is the worst. Anyone who thinks Trump is better than Clinton is, like, smart. Just like Trump.

@shockwaverider. I think Johnson had more votes than Stein, but the third party candidates helped trump win. I agree that Clinton was most qualified and trump least.

10

They've been talking about the book all day on MSNBC all day. Steve Bannon turns on trump. He accuses him and his family of treason, obstructing justice, and money laundering. Its all going to come out in the next few days when the book "Fire and Fury" is released. He's going down.

It doesn't surprise me that with so much evidence against this person who is even more insane than we imagined that so many supporters hunker down and still defend him even on this site.

@JackPedigo I agree. All the people I know that voted for him still defend him rather than admitting they were wrong. They still think they made the right choice. Most back him 100%. I've never backed anybody 100%. They are in total denial and that is scarier than the man himself.

So how’s Cheeto going to wag the dog on this one..?

Birds of a crazy feather.. @sassygirl3869 'He's going down..." May we hold you to that? :- )

@atheist I am beginning to think it is a virus.

@ollieberry Pay attention - there are several on this site that fit that bill.

15

I'll never understand how anyone could have been fooled by 45. His history should have been enough to convince even the most casual observer that he wasn't remotely capable or qualified to do the job. I just don't get it. I really don't.

@atheist They drank the kool-aid. Not to mention 45 appealed to an awful lot of hateful, ignorant people.

@atheist it was a clown car at first

@atheist Some 'accident '. We're going to be the ones with the life-threatening injuries.

@atheist Call the haz-mat team!

13

Sanders would have been such a better choice.

Yes, yes, yes! on a tangent, I see guitars in your pic and ones a resonator. I am jealous.. Do you fingerpick or play slide?

My primary choice. CLinton in the election

Finger pick

A better current president, yes. More likely to win than HRC, no.
