Who is the most overrated band in your opinion?

For me it is Radiohead. Sorry fans, I just don't think they should be treated as gods of new music. Seems no matter what they put out, people just melt.
Not to say I don't like some of their stuff, I just think they are way overrated for what they do.

Who is yours?

Led Zepplin.

you ARE kidding.......right.Robert Plant...Jimmy Page,John Bonham and John Paul Jones..Plant,one of the most highly praised vocalists/////Page...came up through the ranks of GREAT BRITISH guitar players.You DO realize he played with Clapton/Beck and the rest of the Blues Breakers band.The drummer and bass player stand on their own merits.Did you listen to the music backwards trying to hear the devil?PLEASE,you guys.come to whatever senses you have left.

@PalacinkyPDX do you ACTUALLY KNOW ANYTHING about Led Zeppelin? Or have you just been watching videos of the 3 stooges porno....WOW

I was never a fan of theirs as well.
Way over rated.

@lookinhard No, I'm not kidding. I was asked for my opinion, and I gave it. You get to add your own, but you don't get to dispute what I feel. I never liked LZ, even as a kid when they were still a working band. I never said they weren't talented. I just answered that I think they were/are over-rated.
There's a difference. Don't come at me sideways just because you don't like my answer.

@KKGator RELAX......didnt come at you any way.Sorry for giving my opinion.please

@lookinhard No, you absolutely came at me.

You felt the need to attempt to "educate" me about the band members in some sort of effort to defend them. That was unnecessary. Especially seeing as how I never even said anything other than the name of the band.

"Did you listen to the music backwards trying to hear the devil?PLEASE,you guys.come to whatever senses you have left."

That's not just "giving your opinion", and don't tell me to "relax".

@KKGator you take care now.really sorry about stepping on your toes.won't respond to any more of your stuff

@lookinhard Awesome! Thanks.

I screwed up terribly. You are correct and i was mistaken. You didnt say anything but the name. The rant was not aimed at you. Really soory

@lookinhard Apology accepted, thank you for extending it. Have a good night.

The Doors. Never understood why they were so big.

The Beatles

@bluesmagoos check out how Sgt Pepper takes on the salient points of Pet Sounds and remakes it.

@bluesmagoos The Beatles were no more than a component of a Liverpool brand that acquired great PR due to Epstein’s infatuation with Lennon. Plenty of others around at the time. They were the outlet waiting to happen. Look at the contemporary situation and you’ll get a glimpse of what was happening.

@bluesmagoos well that is very pleasant I must say. Please feel free to debate as this is generally an erudite and intelligent forum. Insults, however are best expressed on Facebook or the like.

@bluesmagoos perhaps you could argue the point which brings you to the conclusion that I know nothing about music. You may be or may not be correct, but a civilised conjecture as to your reasoning would be helpful

@bluesmagoos if you place the soul that was coming out of Detroit and the music being played at the same time by The Beatles when they were playing The Cavern side by side you will notice a distinct difference in feeling and musicianship in favour of the Motown artists. Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and Curtis Mayfield to name three are worth comparing. All this backed by The Twisted Wheel club in Manchester made for a healthy Northern England music scene.

U2. Joshua Tree was the last good album they released.

Even that one was questionable.

@Holysocks - It is. And I would have gone with Unforgettable Fire as last good one, but Eno produced Joshua Tree. I think he's brilliant. And there are a few I do like off of that album.

@indelible
As in Brian Eno?

@Holysocks - yes and Daniel Lanois

@indelible
I am not familiar with him. Brian, I learned to respect, being a lord and rejecting title for music.

@trblemaker - I loved U2 in the beginning. I bought import EPs. All that stuff. Then they started becoming polished...lost the passion and that was the end.

@trblemaker we were ALL better as pissed off Irish kids. 😉

@Green_Chile_Type
It's a good thing all the priests will be closest to the fire. 😛

Blasphemy!

KISS, GnR, all death/nu/ metal bands and similar, most other metal bands right back to the dawn of time, Bon bloody Jovi, U2, Radiohead after the first three albums, Dr John, Velvet Underground. I could go on. So I will: Almost all chart teeny pop acts since forever, all boy bands, Ted fucking arsehole Nugent, Ten Years After, most electronica, Pet Shop Boys, the Eagles. Not definitive, but I’ve run out of motivation just thinking about that lot. Oh, and we can’t forget Elvis P - when he was in, and after he came out of, the army, and when he started making those shite films. Utter bilge from then on, inclusive.

@PalacinkyPDX - On the news today...moat albums sold. They broke Muchael Jackson's record.

Overrated mmm Oasis, Radiohead, U2. Coldplay, Ed Sheran, Brian Adams,and pretty much any American stadium rock band like Aeroroses or guns n` smith

3

Nirvana, I don't get the hype. Try to make sense of the lyrics and I get nothing.

3

Rolling Stones

Live, from what I've heard...they suck. BADLY. (Except for "Get Yer Ya's Ya's Out.....w/ Mick Taylor)
Absolutely the worst sounding, worst playing, sloppiest live band I've ever heard, on disc and film.
Disclaimer: I've never been to one of their shows

@JustLynnie they're overrated. Period.

3

I agree. Daltrey and Townshend are talented for sure, but the band isoverrated.

3

Ahhh... it's in the ear of the beholder ????

Kiss

@Akfishlady overated pop band pretending to be rock

More about the theatrics than the music

2

The Eagles! Mechanical, soporific, syrupy... They found their success mainly by appealing to the USA! USA! brigade through their choice of name! A bit like the Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, 7thday Adventists, Christian Scientists etc., etc., : "Look! We've got a God Made in the USA for ya! None of this foreign rubbish!"

2

The Grateful Dead or whatever version of "Dead" is lingering pout there, sucking the last bit of energy out of that teat. Many years ago I paid money for a live pay-per-view NYE concert and I thought it was gawd awful. I was so pissed that I had wasted the money for such drivel. The minutes someone starts preaching the wonders of the ead, I roll my eyes and walk away.

Kiss, The Doors, Elvis Presley, and one I haven't seen mentioned yet: Dave Matthews Band.

I only know of a couple of Elvis songs that I liked. I was in 5th grade, I think when he started out. After Dont Be Cruel, I didnt like him that much.

2

Pearl Jam. There, I said it.
And a lot of the formulaic indie wannabe drivel I hear in the grocery store.

2

Off of the top of my head... Sublime. Also now that I think about it, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed, and Velvet Underground.

@goldenvalleyguy Well, his un-taste does, not sure what he would think is good. Probably Backdoor boys!

2

I cannot stand screaming guitars or drum solos.

This makes me sad...

I'm a drummer and late 99% of the drum solos l have ever heard. Not big on screaming guitars either.

@daylily - My first real love was a drummer. I am so hooked.

Look up on U-Tube, Sandy nelson - "Let there be drums" 8 minutes of drum solo, great

@Akfishlady I was wrong, the song is "The Birth of the Beat" and it is over 9 minutes in length. Let there be drums is shorter. Now I'll be playing his stuff all day long.

2

Can We Guess Who?

@Krish55 Guess Who, Burton Cummings....Great Band. Great Songs

2

This will piss some people off, The Beatles.

The Beatles and the Eagles did their best career moves when they split up!

No, it makes me laugh out loud at your lack of music and the history of music.You may not like them, but that is a different thing. People like what they like, as it should be.

Lennon and McCartney wrote some cracking songs, but I've heard most of them played by better artists.

@Sticks48 More due to their media hype and herd mentality of teens, As for my lack of music, duh. Not liking the beatles does not mean I have no feeling for music. I would say the opposite. they are so jangly and tinny with no complexity or feeling in the sound. It's just a noise. I think Lennon is great, real feeling in his songs, but, the beatles, ah please no.

@Savage If complexity was what you judging music by, then jazz would be the most popular music in the world. The question was not who you liked, but who is overrated. GEEZ!

@Sticks48 The beatles are highly rated by many but not me, I believe it is not justified. Was that not your query??? Which band do we believe to be overrated? Or am I missing something?? LOL

?

@Sticks48 Can't listen to Jazz, Makes me feel ill.

2

I say the Beatles as well. I think they were ok, timing did the rest. Also the doors

You have no idea of the Beatles impact on every facet of the music business. You don't have to like them, but they were the most influential band in the history of popular music. There is no close second.

@Sticks48 like I said they were alright, but the timing made them what they were, in my opinion. That's just me, some people like tomatoes, some people like carrots. I didn't say they weren't influential, just overrated.

@Electro68 You can't overrated the most influential band in the history of popular music. They changed the way people wrote and recorded. They changed what people put on albums. They changed touring and they changed the size of venues. They made all other bands have to step up their game, especially writing and recording. What you like is what you like. That is as it should be. That has absolutely nothing to do with their impact on the music business. Everyone who ever made it big, it was timing.

@Sticks48 I can give any answer I like. I saw someone post Zeppelin, Dylan, Joplin. What did I see from you, crickets.

The post wasn't uninfluencial bands who you think we're overrated. It's all subjective man so I take umbrage with you attacking my answer. Be cool. I get it, you love the Beatles...I love Zeppelin but I just let it slide, didn't call them uninformed, didn't pick a fight.

@Electro68 It is not who you like . Maybe your grasp of the English language is the same as your grasp of musical history. There are no alternative facts. ☺

@Sticks48 it is in your opinion, maybe you didn't read the question. Why are you being such a dick? Troll someone else.

2

I couldn't pick just one.

@Akfishlady 99% of them.

2

"jesus and the apostoles"

2

Metallica, Guns & Roses, and Foo Fighters. I love the Metallica S&M collection, but that's because of the orchestral backing - the rest of their stuff sounds like it's coming through an over-driven AM radio. Long ago decided the way to shut up Axl Rose is to plug his nose. Foo Fighters are great at coming with catchy 15 second hooks, only to punish listeners by looping it for 4 minutes.

Agreed on GnR.

2

I am a jazz lover. Jazz bands do not seem to have permanent configurations.

@Morganfreeman I agree with you. I like Dianna Krall, probably because she is so attractive.
