I guess I am concerned with "profanity creep" ( I just made that up and guess what? It exists:[npr.org] Boy, I am so smart (and humble too)?? jk

"...F-word does not exist. So how does he express the sense of authenticity and emotional registers that the word conveys? 'Jesus Christ' is probably our replacement, ironically,"

As long as it makes a point and it's not just for attention, It's OK with me.

I don't really like profanity in general speech, but I can swear with the best on occasion.

In music, it really does depend on the context, some of the rap genre I hear some of the kids at work playing I find to be misogynistic crap that just spouts anger and hate. I don't think i'm offended by it, but I am saddened that such hate filled bile has a place in popular culture.

Most of the time when the so called musician has to resort to profanity it means it isn't music. Like it or whatever, but most of the so called rap "music" I hear isn't really music. And I usually agree with it politically but I just don't want to listen to it.

I don't care for profanity ANYWHERE.
ETA: I use some profanity myself on occasion but only when I am by myself.

I thoroughly enjoy a well placed swear.

My opinion lies between i fucking love it and its ok in small doses. I would venture to say I do love it prolly, or at the very least like it a lot, but every other word is not cool lol. I wouldnt go so far as to say it enhances it either, but just like in speaking it can certainly put emphasis on things.

Its free speech.... give it to them if thats what they want... just give me a channel that doesn't have it and thats the one I'll listen to. Oh yeah... ild like to see an agnostics channel that I can listen to.

If the artist chooses the color yellow, is it wrong?

when i speak to some one I only swear when I'm frustrated. the last thing i want is to hear a frustrated person singing to me . it takes skill to be clever with words

Profanity is fine if its relevant in any situation

It's never bothered me whatsoever.

It depends. Some music is truly profane. I remember hearing a rap song about a gang raping a gang members mother. That’s offensive. Music with profanity just represents life. Who cares? Profane music that describes offensive acts is something else. And, of course, there really needs to be a warning for subjects that are age inappropriate.

Can be good can be bad. Some songs are funnier with swearing some are downright fucking annoying if it's done for the sake of it. The best profanity comes from the heart. I don't think it's limited to genre. Stick a Parental Advisory on it and swear away pal.

I don't really care about it, what bothers me is racial slurs in music. I'm listening to some catchy song by some black singer and all of a sudden I'm singing words that I was always taught a white person deserved to get punched in the face for and it makes me very uncomfortable. Of course, I get that they are taking back the words and making it have less offensive meaning, but living around racists it makes me feel like a terrible person if I sing it on accident.

As long as it enhances the context of the song. Although proving a point creatively in music without it is more challenging.

When my first wife dumped me, dirty music was the only thing that helped me get over my depression. Without songs like You F&&&king B&&&tch , F&&&ck you, Stroking off in silence, and cum in her mouth, I probably would have killed myself. Profanity in music, to me, is beautiful. I even write and perform some of my own dirty parodies at karaoke.

Profanity for the lack of not having anything worthwhile to say reveals exactly who/what you are.
