Do you like what you do? If you could do anything, and time and/or money were not an issue, what would it be?
I used to design ridiculously overpowered car stereo equipment.
I am an Employment Specialist for the AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Progtam. I get over 55 folks who are poverty level training and try to get them back into the work force.
that's gotta be tough
Not tough at all. You have to think through the problems. One case, 72 yo who had never worked. Living on SS from her husband and his pension. then his pension went away, bankrupt. Got her a job at a thrift shop that taught her to work the cash register. She went grocery shopping and they were hiring, she applied and got the job. Not great pay but enough to get her by and not eating dog food. Those keep you going!
Nice work. Good on you.
I travel the state training employers' employees. I just got this promotion. I love it!
College librarian and adjunct professor of rock music history. Have a novel to be published sometime in the next year.
I am a software engineer. Currently, my specific job title is "Software Design Engineer," but it's purely semantic. I enjoy it. Nearly every day, I have a puzzle to solve. Writing computer programming code is as much art as it is science, so it scratches a creative itch.
If I could do anything, and time and money were not at issue, I would be playing loud rock music to packed venues. If I couldn't do that, then I would probably be racing stock cars, travelling and living out of a Class A motorhome, or about a half-dozen other things that I can think of doing.
That said, I'm pretty happy with where I'm at right now.
I don't like what I currently do; I am bored. I was forced into retirement in 2011. I was in health insurance and annuities. I also did a ton of sales for AARP, ACD, and Liveops.
With no restraints I would sing professionally and give half of my proceeds to the Children's hospital. Money makes things happen. I want to provide that.
I'm a geek. I've done IT stuff of one sort or another for just over 40 years. Now I'm in the salesforce world as an analyst and developer of custom apps, and I really enjoy it. I could probalby retire, but I'm having too much fun.
I work in a collection agency. I actually do like my job most days. If I could do anything though, I would quit work and create quilt art.
I am a Nurse Practitioner. I am the principle shareholder in my clinic. I thoroughly enjoy my line of work and it is very rewarding. If money wasnt an issue and I could do whatever I wish, I don't think I would do anything else.
Forced to retire in 2012. Active sales and marketing career. Starting to appreciate retirement now.
I've stopped talking about the shitty company I work for. I'm now too embarrassed to work for Wendy's. I'm now almost in college, and in 4 years I will get my degree and certificate. Then I can get a career. Right now I'm enduring it and trying to make the best of it. I like the work, not the employees/employers. I want to become a computer engineer. I'm studying computer drafting as my major in college.
I willingly offered up my soul to be sucked away by mean people who demean others for shiggles so that my children would never have to.
Retail.
Don't particularly like it but a series of events early on trapped me in it and I've done it too long to jump off at this point. I would like to do social work with at risk teens.
Insurance sales. Honestly, the only thing I'd really change would be taking more of a management / leadership position. I wouldn't turn down more money.
I make extra money playing in bands, teaching guitar lessons, and ministering weddings. In a perfect world, those side jobs would be enough for me to get by.
At my age folks expect me to be retired and waiting for God to call me to heaven or the Devil to take me to the fires of Hell. Well I'm still working releasing albums on my record label. I also chair a community organsation, which is of course voluntary, but it is work and can be very demanding.
Semi-retired civil engineer. Love being an engineer. My area was hydraulic engineering. Retired from full time work in 2001. Now do a few flood studies a year. Keep my professional engineering license current.
