There is legislation that has been passed in a number of states that will commit their electors to the candidate who wins the national popular vote. This doesn't require a Constitutional amendment since the states have the right to instruct their electors. Once enough states pass this the Electoral College will be irrelevant. It looks like it will happen in time for the 2024 election. That's a lot faster than amending the Constitution.
