There are non religious people who have different values. I may disagree with them being strange or even oppressive, but evil?
I can't believe how some women chose to live within the family unit and the role they take on, but they are happy (not religious). They believe in doing something they're good at and some people, men or women enjoy taking a subservient role.
I suppose this might be require a definition we can agree upon. I'm certainly not interested in going down this road of debate, but evil, based in my definition is a stretch.

Jainism may be fucked up but it's not that. If it is, then so many everyday things people do in society are "evil."

Judement of what is good and bad related to well being outside of religion. Many people have been indoctrinated regarding many things... regarding how they feel about other races, about money, education, relationships etcetera. Are all families evil? Many cultures, independent of religion, raise their sons and daughters differently. Are all cultures evil too because they have certain practices we don't agree with? These indoctrination can all cause pain and suffering regardless of religion.

All religions are wrong. To make the point that there can't be some distinctions is intellectually lazy.

I still don't believe Jainism is inherently evil. In my experience with Jains, the women are so calmly energetic and happier than most. No one is killed or beaten, and their foundation is rooted in love and non violence.
There is evil in the world in that case that has nothing to do with religion and can be far more oppressive than the anticipation of a rebirth, for example.

I have a friend who has suffered immensely due to her parents insisting she must be with a man who is university educated. The men she meets and wants to be with have not been and she lost the love of her life because of this silliness. What is evil in this case? The concept of thinking you know what's best for your daughter? The parents? The whole family? The Jews?

I disagree. Muslims embody the tenets in the Quran. That manifests differently depending on where a particular person of the Islamic faith is raised, or how they came to the religion.
ISIS is inspired by their holy book. They are more aligned in their practices with that book, than moderate muslims. It is also so for fundamentalist Christians.

I think a lot of people here are saying they don't care if the person is white, brown or purple. They take issue with the teachings within any religion, which includes Islam and anyone who is defending it.

The bible is every bit as bad as the quran. The only differences are that most Christians don't adhere to all of its laws and teachings; and, countries that are majority Christian are not theocracies.

If the Talibangelicals get their way, in no time they will be using just as much violence to force their archaic and brutal beliefs onto everyone else--and they would find justification for it in the bible.

It is disgusting here in the US how often we hear of a public official claiming that their god's law is supreme over "man made" laws This is in direct contrast to what our founders intended and they are not fit to serve.

Take a look at history to see what Christians did when they were either in control of the governments or had the ear of, or control over, monarchs.

This is why our founders established us as a secular nation. We were established as a nation under laws established by men, through reason--not laid down by any god.

Lastly, there are fundamentalist, dominionist, forces in this country who want to "return" to the the rule of law under their god--even though we were NEVER under the laws of their god to start with. Given the chance, they would be just as intolerant and brutal.
