Pretty easy to see this one coming. It's also just another clear indication why socialism does not work. People are mostly moved by self interest, not some "greater good", which is a clear logical fallacy.
What happens when so many are employed or paid by govt, that the private sector of producers is squashed and completely overrun?
Where does wealth come from when capitalists all become socialists living off the govt? It doesn't, because govt does not produce goods and services for consumption. It only creates rules and regulations. It's life blood is the capital ceeated by producers and consumers acting in their own self interests.
Did it ever occur to you that their jobs don't pay enough to begin with? When "To little to actually get by on" - which is how much unemployment pays - is more than what they normally get paid that's the problem.
Where does wealth actually come from, anyways?
If that was the case, why would they "ask" to be laid off?
I did not write the article, by the way.
@Bierbasstard Why wouldn't they? It makes perfect economic sense for them.
Now, the moral and economic hazard involved is another thing all together.
@Bierbasstard Like many things, I don't think most in government understand, let alone plan for moral hazard.
They brought the punch bowl, then spiked it. Of course people are going to drink it and get drunk!
The only way to fix it is to remove it. But which politician will sacrifice their political position and careers by attaching their names removing these funds from voters? Me thinks none.
@BryanLV why would they "ask" to be laid off?
Because you don't get unemployment if you quit. They aren't stupid enough to do something to get fired and put a hit on thier references.
Everyone seems to know how much money it takes to live on except those setting wages for the people you're complaining about. The structure that gives us your gripe is the root of the problem. Fix that 1st. Don't blame the people cashing the checks, blame those who are writing them such small checks for thier work to begin with. If that makes thier business unsustainable then you know what - exploiting people is part of thier business plan and fuck them.
@1of5 I didn't blame anyone here. I blame the people who call themselves government and their apologists.
You're a bit off topic and I'm a bit too busy to go into this at the mo. But this has nothing to do with unemployement. This is about how socialism piggy-backs off of the success of Capitalism and then destroys the host. This is about how historically predictable this situation is.
