On Friday, the US reported the highest number of new cases in a single day, with at least 40,3 new infections. The previous daily high was reported on Thursday.
Several states, including Texas and Washington state, and localities have paused their reopening plans or reimposed some restrictions in hopes of curbing the spread of the virus.
Azar denied that reopening too quickly was tied to the rise in cases, but instead "inappropriate individual behavior" that has enabled the spread of the virus.
"That's not so much about what the law says on the reopening as what our behaviors are within that," he told Tapper.
He cautioned that if Americans "act irresponsibly, if we don't socially distance, if we don't use face coverings in settings where we can't social distance, if we don't practice appropriate personal hygiene, we're going to see spread of disease."
We are running the largest experiment on the virus running rampant through a population in the world. Keep yourself and those around you safe.
Tell ya one damn thing....its not trumpys fault, or his administration, or foxs fault, or any of his minions, ....... its all those people being irresponsible and not following....wait wait wait, I just tolled ya ...its not there fault....theres no there there
The Cheeto has realized he does not have to do anything but lie about what he has done. His supporters think he is doing a great job, the rest of us know better. He has only the ability to divide and conquer, no substance, no beef. Lying and voter suppression are his only means of getting reelected. The world is shutting us off, we are on our own. Nature will take over soon and then a solution will be found for us.
unfortuneatly I beleive you are very right
The border is not about to reopen.
Huh?? Who mentioned the border?
@IrishTxJudy Oh, yes, that is true now you mention it, but- it was only obliquely related, at best, to the thread topic.
"Azar denied that reopening too quickly was tied to the rise in cases, but instead "inappropriate individual behavior" that has enabled the spread of the virus.
"That's not so much about what the law says on the reopening as what our behaviors are within that," he told Tapper."
Thus winning the 2020 "Fine Line Award".
Look.
If you reopen bars after a 4 month hiatus, people are going to crowd into those bars. Anyone who understands human behavior could see this coming. If you reopen the beaches in Miami Dade County, what the hell did you think was going to happen?
Preaching "individual responsibility" in this situation means you get millions of irresponsible individuals all saying, "I'm doing the right thing, it's those other 500 idiots coming to the bar tonight! They're the ones to blame!"
It amazes me that Arkansas doesn't make the list of raging failures. probably because the population is so small that it doesn't register, but the cases here have been skyrocketing in the 3 weeks since reopening and near nobody in this red state is social distancing in any way. Restaurants are packed...all of them. Even the creeks and rivers have so many people on them there is no social distancing ( and these morons wondered why they had been closed )
This virus is far more dangerous than first thought. This is going to be deadly for years. It is transforming, already mutated at least twelve times. Doctors are starting to find that some people contracted the virus and had no symptoms just to catch it again and get really sick. Nature will handle it from now on since we took our chance and squandered it.
but....but...VP Pence said America is re-opening SAFELY In his briefing....he said we are good. Now I don't know what to believe..
Pence is as bad as trumph
And Pence's lust for the cheeto is just pure. So what? This is going to turn into a real mess and the next president will be able to react totally differently but the genie is out of the bottle and it is pissed.
If it were not for the idiot Trump's indifference and incompetence, we would not be in this position today.
The best thing science could be working on right now is a time machine to go back to 2016 and start a "Get Out The Vote" campaign for Clinton. (Or beat Donald with pipes, either one. Not that I advocate violence in any way, heavens no.)
@Paul4747 For Clinton to have won the election one would have to go back to the Reagan era and end the lies about her. The Republicans saw that Hillary could be the first woman president many years ago and have been working on destroying her since. Just research all the scandals she has been accused of having while the Republicans have been working on making a king of their ilk. No Hillary and we get the cheeto and no concern of treason.
@dalefvictor Well, why not go back to 1980 and straighten out all the BS about "supply-side economics" and the idea that tax cuts for the rich would somehow magically make everyone else better off? That we could increase spending and cut taxes at the same time? Bush rightly called it "voodoo economics", that cutting taxes would somehow increase revenues "because we say it will."
The core of the Reagan Revolution was telling people comfortable lies that confirmed their existing biases. You don't like taxes? Well, taxes can be cut! You want more spending? We're going to increase spending! You don't want to worry about how it's paid for? You don't have to!!
Trump is the logical, ultimate extension of Reagan. His reality is whatever he says it is. Politics as the ultimate reality series.
