The irrational qualities of monopoly capitalist society
In the book’s (Monopoly Capital) concluding chapters Baran and Sweezy highlight the growing disparity between the productive potential of US society and the waste and misuse of that potential. They point to racial disparities and the social and cultural costs of the current structure of the political economic system where real basic needs for human development such as education and housing are not met while a belligerent militarism and cultural traits associated today with “consumerism” are cultivated with great effort in the interests of profit. They see the primary weaknesses of the system to be in the imperial realm, as countries in the periphery revolt against the domination of monopoly capital over their economies, a revolt that is increasingly mirrored in the resistance of peoples of color, making up a critical part of the working class, within the United States itself.

Monopoly capital and the Great Recession
With the financial crisis of 2007–2009 and the Great Recession of these years, followed by conditions of economic stagnation, some political economists have argued that Baran and Sweezy's analysis in Monopoly Capital is key to the theoretical and historical explanation of these events. This has led to an extension of theory to address what is called "monopoly-finance capital," the "internationalization of monopoly capital," the globalization of the reserve army of labor, and the growing monopolization of communications, most dramatically the Internet.

*State Monopoly Capitalism😘
“The main Marxist–Leninist thesis is that big business, having achieved a monopoly or cartel position in most markets of importance, fuses with the government apparatus. A kind of financial oligarchy or conglomerate therefore results, whereby government officials aim to provide the social and legal framework within which giant corporations can operate most effectively.”

*Political implication😘
“Ever since monopoly capital took over the world, it has kept the greater part of humanity in poverty, dividing all the profits among the group of the most powerful countries. The standard of living in those countries is based on the extreme poverty of our countries.”
— Che Guevara, 1965 -Wikipedia

Here goes (again):
Citizen One cleans out sewers so they work properly. The work is dirty, arduous, and poorly-paid.
But incredibly important to Everyone, healthwise & esthetically.
Citizen 2 is a corporate raider. Lives in the Hamptons, wears $3000++ suits, Dior cologne, Gucci loafers. His work causes jobs to be lost en masse, depression (mentally & physically), major stress, even starvation & certainly despair.
Which one do You think should be admired & treasured, and enjoy rewards commensurate to the value of their their labor"?
Which one is more important to Everyone?

We admire the wrong things!
And BTW That's how we got drump in the first place!

Creating a government that "promotes the general welfare" as ours was intended, is not a government that allows half of its citizens to be free loaders; and it is not a government that does not allow anyone to get wealthy.

It is simply a government that understands that the rich do not get that way in a vacuum and from the sweat of only their brows (although their own sweat may also be involved). A good government is not one that installs policies that favor the rich--but, instead, a good government promotes policies that help lift everyone.

The super rich have gotten super rich by gaming the system; and a country cannot sustain itself when a hand full of people have more wealth than the combined wealth of over half of the population.

Why does this sound like Ayn Rand rationalizing?

#1: They may think that's possible but the wealthy can't be legislated out of prosperity. They can only lose all prosperity by making bad decisions and failing to heed market changes. Lawyers and Accountants will take care of the rest.
#4: It's not really being divided. The successful wealthy will get their taxed dollars back through greater spending on products or services thanks to a prosperous and employed society. The wealthy all know this. It's investors who have trouble with the concept.

4

Labor produces all wealth.
Rich freeloaders live off the wealth produced by Labor.
Labor comprises 70 percent of the population.
Rich freeloaders comprise 30 psrcent of the population.

We live in a society where we need to take care of all our citizens or else we will surely fail as a nation.

From the Constitution: “... in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, ....”

That’s what he wants to throw away. Keeping it requires an ability to reason.
