Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't actually after you.
I once knew a woman who asked me to fix her computer. When I arrived at her home she kindly offered me a cup of coffee. While working on her computer she told me that she thought that the governement was spying on her. Calmly, I looked her and told her that I never knew the she was such an important person. A flicker of smile appeared on her face.
@Gwendolyn2018 IMAGINATION. A few years ago I worked as an taxi driver on the Uber Platform. Early one morning I accepted a job and when I arrived at the pick up address I was greeted by three young women. All three sat in the rear seat of my car as we set off in the direction of the destinations.
After a few minutes the young woman who sat in the middle of the rear seat between her two friends blurted out, ‘ the bastard! He is not answering his phone.’ The other two were silent and I could see in the rear view mirror that they were both looking out the rear side windows of the car. Another few minutes passed and then, ‘I knew it, he is with that waitress. I saw that way he looked at her when we were in that resturant two days ago.’
I could not resist a comment and said that imagination can be wonderful or terrible. Her two friends burst into laughter. Before we got to the first drop off address the young woman who sat the middle of the rear seat had tried, convicted, hung drawn and quartered her boyfriend.
We arrived at the first drop off and the young woman who sat in the middle got out of the car. I was about to drive off and the other two women asked me to wait a moment. A rear window of the car was opened while they looked at their friend who was banging on the door of her house. A blearly eyed boyfriend opened the door and she screamed at him for not answering his cell phone. He explained that he had fallen asleep and that the power had drained from his cell phone battery.
ASTRALMAx: Ooooh, how perceptive of you! Well done!
@Gwendolyn2018 my cousin , who has been a lifetime paranoid, finally got a smartphone, and immediately started in on the powers that be spying on him. He finally started to lighten up when I pointed out that he's 69 years old, on SS. They A: already know everything about him and B There has been no such thing as privacy for about 15-20 years ( heck, the company that was gathering and selling personal information a couple of decades before internet is not far from here,) and C: : what are they possibly going to do to him at his age and failing health? Oy . It totally cracks me up the folks worried about tracking devices in the shots, pounding away about it on mobile phones, quite literally voluntarily carried tracking devices
@Gwendolyn2018 I have a bunch of neighbors this way as well ( red state hell in the Ozarks) . I can't figure out what they are worried about. I figure if someone wants to spend thousands of dollars and man hours tracking me here out in the woods. An old retired guy on a fixed income, hey, they can knock themselves out . Somehow I seriously doubt it's ever going to happen aside from the usual target marketing where someone is trying to make a buck, but they've been doing that forever. Remember the old warranty registration forms?
@Gwendolyn2018 used to be warranty forms included with new things that were basically a two or three page survey that gathered tons of personal information , completely irrelevant to the warranty on your device, that was sold to every marketing company on the planet. Said personal information , it was uncovered , was mostly being processed by prison labor ( there were a few incidents of released prisoners hunting people down).
I'm not sure when everything went crazy around here, but I moved to Arkansas when Clinton was governor, most of the farms had been basically dormant for years and rural property was mostly being bought up by old hippies and back to the landers. There was really a rather progressive air to things . The old farmers that were still here were pretty openpen minded. . I'm not sure what happened, but I suspect the complete lack of non religious social interaction and the hard right swing of Huckabee after Clinton went to Washington, but the kids and grandkids of all those open minded people, became Tea Party members, and now that cable and internet is slowly reaching these places, they have become a breeding ground for ultra right wing fanaticism.
