Modern military chaplains only go back to the Napoleonic Wars, when European armies began hiring them to give religious sanction to war. Napoleon thought they were a stupid idea however, so the French Army did not begin the practice until later in the nineteenth-century.

Hmm, I see that the United States of Absurdity is steadily become the run-away train of religion in stead of being the standing joke of religion and its rampant stupidity.
