I find it very offensive. One is basically saying you are not a human being. The fact is, everyone has morals. Even inside prison there is a moral code. Morals are a part of humanity and can be either bad or good.

Not, really, only a non-critical thinker sees the world in a dichotomy. I will point out that the concepts are not mutually exclusive, one can be critical of religion and be a moral person. If they are not receptive, I ask myself, do I want to waste time (that I can never get back) attempting to broaden the mind that is like a steel trap (closed so that nothing gets in). I have the choice to be pulled into their ignorance or move on...

More than anything, I am sorry fiction has shaped somebody's view of reality to that extent. Ignorance, just by itself. doesn't offend me. It saddens me.

My answer revolves around not being able to screw up and pray to have my sins wiped away. Atheists are required to get it right in one, it's what makes us such great people.

Nothing is impossible. I've run a marathon.hiked the Grand canyon, know people that have run a business using just a bicycle for transportation and done other incredible things. Beliefs don't really factor into morality,you can only try to good within reason. I believe in moral proximity (help when you can and have the means).

I suppose a person could make a big whoop-de-doo over being different and superior just for ego purposes, and in that case, being offended would certainly be useful in keeping the ego cauldron boiling.

Actually, IMO good and evil are not opposites. Evil exists only in imagination, while good has true essence, and permeates the universe.

I do not take offense at what other people think. What other's think is none of my business, does not concern me and does not affect me. It is their actions and what they do that has an affect on anyone.

Seems to me religion follows social norms of society and bases their current teachings on what is currently acceptable. Where was any Christian church on treatment of the Jews and black people in the early part of the 20th century? If they are the light and the truth shouldn’t their teachings and beliefs be timeless and unaffected by current social or political norms? Ridiculous

Broadly speaking, you're either a decent person or you're not. If you're not, then religion stands a chance of keeping you on track. Though there are plenty of god believers who are also nasty people and/or criminals. So it's not that effective a deterrent, is it? It certainly doesn't seem to stop Catholic priests performing sex offences against children.

I believe that here in the U.S. all people have the right to believe as they wish. Beliefs,skin color,educational levels all factor into the persons character but do not define it. I live an active lifestyle,try to be friendly and mostly succeed in not judging others. As for morality; I believe there is right and wrong,good and bad. Each person is unique and should live the life they enjoy!

I wouldn't say it's offensive, but it is certainly annoying for its innate stupidity, and it doesn't encourage intelligent politics when people think these things and find other excuses to pander to religion. However, theists have an exceedingly large amount of people without the faintest clue on how to disseminate a true belief versus a false one, so I am not surprised they think these things.
