A Massive, Black Sarcophagus Has Been Unearthed in Egypt, And Nobody Knows Who's Inside
A bit of a sensationalist article, but an interesting find nevertheless.
Archaeologists prepare to open huge granite sarcophagus in Egypt
Wow. This is super exciting. The sarcophagus does not appear to be ornate, though made of black granite. I wonder why they didn't inscribe the outside of these stone coffins the way they did for some on the inside of them. Hum... I do hope there is a mummy in it with all the jewels and inscriptions saying who it is, perhaps a papyrus with the person's "Book of the Dead" naming who the person is. That would be so cool.
My guess would be that it contains the remains of a Greek person, the site dating to the Ptolemaic period which followed Alexander III's conquering of Egypt, or perhaps an Egyptian who had adopted the ways and traditions on the country's Greek masters - which would explain why the coffin doesn't look very Egyptian.
