Aztec war sacrifices found in Mexico may point to elusive royal tomb
That is absolutely fascinating. I visited Mexico City in February and stayed at a run down hotel called the Templo Mayor the first night. The taxi driver from the airport was confused and first took me to the actual Templo Mayor, on the north side if the Zocolo, and wanted me to get out there in the middle of the night! Ha ha. That is the place featured in this article. There is so much buried under the center of Mexico City!
Very interesting, but I just can't relate to that society, can't imagine living there at that time. Did people feel differently than we do about their family members back then, since they might become sacrifices the next day or next week or next year? When they witnessed the rituals were they scared, sad, or awestruck & reverent? I don't suppose we will ever really know, although experts on the Aztecs would certainly come closer than I can.
