The world's largest stone circle, Avebury in the UK, may have started out as a humble ancient home according to new research carried out by the University of Leicester.
"Think of Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland," says Pollard. “It was once just a house, now it’s a shrine.”

Very interesting article. If you read further on the site there is an article about a possible connection between gum disease and Alzhiemers. Makes ya really want to go brush your teeth.
Avebury is a tremendous site. It is a much better visit than Stonehenge. For many years the villagers tried to destroy the circle. Stukely describes fires being set around the stones then once they were hot from the flames cold water was thrown onto them to shatter the hot stone. Many of the stones have been reerected after an extensive survey by Keiler. This is a site well worth visiting. Within easy reach of it is the West Kennet long barrow and Silbury Hill 'the enigmatic British '[pyramid'.
Seems like I just read about this place in one of Bill Brysons books, "The Road to Little Dribbling." [goodreads.com] There are a lot of amazing places most of us have never heard of.
Funny, but the two sides of the picture (lawn) remind me of our area - right side now and left side, summer.
Is this the one they believe to be a part of stonehenge?
No, Avebury is a far larger, more complicated and presumably more important site than Stonehenge, though Stonehenge could perhaps be considered an outlying satellite of the Avebury complex. One of my professors always said that Stonehenge should be considered akin to a parish church and Avebury to a cathedral.
