Chess piece coming up for auction is apparently from a hoard of pieces found in a sand dune on Scotland’s Isle of Lewis in 1831.[smithsonianmag.com]

I heard that this morning. Pretty amazing. It made me think of a museum we visited a number of years ago. [maryhillmuseum.org] They have an amazing collection of chess sets. [ecosia.org]

I am not a great chess player, but have always found the sets interesting. I love the handmade ones.

@LB67 I was once really into chess but it's been a while. This museum is located high on a ridge overlooking the Columbia River. It was a chance find and it has an interesting history.

That's really a cool looking piece. I think, but am not sure, the Warder must be the bishop.
