QUESTION RE GOBECKLI TEPE:
The 14 12,000 year-old temples at Gobeckli Tepe in Turkey have smaller, older, altars under them that may be 15,000 years old. Found by ground penetrating radar, but the last I heard none had been excavated because of damage to gorgeous complex temples above them.
But I wonder if any more exploration of older altars beneath has been done. I only have a phone and limited access to good archaeology search engines... Anyone else curious about this?
Best film on Gobekli Tepe
I enjoyed that video! I couldn't help thinking of a development of meaning from survival to psychological. The birth of existential thought, perhaps. And that thought articulated through religion for millenia.
Yes... Precursor to Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs / Self- Actualization pyramid. In many cultures it was an able-bodied self- actualized "young prince" that was sacrificed, being judged worthy of it as a representative of his people.
Unlike with Egyptian works none of the animals seem to mix with humans. I have only read a little about this site and find it fascinating.
See film I just added to post. Great Nat Geo stuff only place I heard even older altars under temples mentioned
@MoonTigerII will check it out thanks.
I didn't know about them. I searched and got this;
Thank you for pulling up the article.
