It seems the further you got from Islam's political centre, the more moderate the religion would be. I got this from the book I'm reading now, Saharasia. I also read in it that the library of Alexandria was destroyed not one but twice - the second time by the Muslims. It's good to hear of book lovers everywhere. He was a great guy to organise such a huge and noble task.
