Just finished reading "Real Queer America: LGBT Stories From Red States" by Samantha Allen.

It's a real life road trip through red states looking at LGBT persons who choose to live there and not leave. I didnt' know what to expect, but as I read on through the book reading the stories, I started to develop a better hope for the future America, which I did not have before reading it. more than anything it gave me hope that Trump/Pence and the general hate that has risen up is more a lat gasp from the past than an actual solid cultural trend.

As I'm not American, wasn't familiar with the term "Red State". For other overseas readers, it refers to US states where voters predominantly choose Republican Party Presidential candidates. Now a shorthand for conservative states.

Nice take away from the book. Good to know that it had a positive message as regards the hate that has arisen under the current administration.
