We've had such a dry summer that I haven't seen many timber rattlesnakes. This yearling is the only one I found in a boulder field where I normally find many.

That's a beauty. I meant to post this, but haven't been on lately. This gorgeous yellow phase is the only one I saw all summer:

She resisted being moved off the road, but she didn't do anything more than assume a threatening posture.

There are still some big ones out there.

@Insectra I've heard that we have them in NC but never have seen one I believe they can get pretty big .Good to see a post from you again .

@Besalbub If you live in the south you may know them as canebrake or banded rattlesnakes. They are regional names for the species (Crotalus horridus.)
