My first Monarch since moving here! I started a butterfly garden two years ago, specifically targeting monarchs and swallowtails. Got this lone caterpillar on native swamp milkweed that I’ve fought hard to keep going (is a tremendous aphid magnet).

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I've been planting milkweed and have had a time trying to keep the aphids off ,smashing them every day and washing the leaves . I've planted common , swamp and spider milkweed along with butterfly weed and blood flower . I got to see a monarch migration back in the early 70s , it was amazing they just kept coming for days .

I had butterfly weed volunteer in the garden last year, but not enough to cross pollinate and establish it. Strangely, I have butterfly pea plants growing there this year. I almost had given up on the swamp milkweed. The aphids nearly wipe it out, over and over! I just hope this little guy gets enough to eat before pupating!
