A big Nerodia watersnake that I moved off the road.
A gartersnake that was startled along the creek.
A neonate Nerodia that was hunting minnows underwater.

Those Nerodia are gorgeous! I've had several northern water snakes (mostly young'uns) show up at my vernal pool here in Massachusetts, presumably attracted by the abundant tadpoles. Around here, the older ones appear almost uniformly dark gray when they're dry, at least from a distance, but in the water it's possible to make out some of that lovely patterning.
