It's 0330 and I'm fading fast! Mothman and I took a ride to Weiser State Forest in the Poconos to set up lights for Papaipema sp. moths. We had no luck at all with the Papaipemas, but we had great times black lighting for caterpillars! I saw more wild Polyphemus caterpillars tonight than I've ever seen before. Tons of blinded sphinx caterpillars, several slug moth caterpillars, daggers, and tussocks. To anyone interested in hunting caterpillars, get a blacklight flashlight! I just bought a 68 LED blacklight flashlight from Amazon for about $13. It runs on 3 AA batteries and it has proven INVALUABLE for hunting caterpillars.
