The cover photo for this group reminds me of one of the funnest things we did with our son (who just graduated as Valediction from his HS this weekend FYI) when he was a boy. We loved finding praying mantises in our yard and one time we created a nice terrarium habitat using a large cylindrical glass vase and brought one inside. That Mantis, which we named Francis, lived quite happily in our kitchen, eating crickets and other insects we fed it. It grew very large and eventually laid a chrysalis, which we put outside in the garden. Presumably it hatched thousands of babies into the garden later. They really do make wonderful pets and are fascinating to watch. A great bug experience for an 8 and 9 year old.

Posted by InsectraA cute grey treefrog (Hyla versicolor) that I found in my birch tree, this afternoon. His camouflage was great and I only discovered him when I heard him calling.
