I realized that I accidentally left the porch light on and noticed these moths sitting on the glass of the door. I'm curious to know what kind they are. They're both very pretty. The brown one is the biggest moth I've ever seen. I'd say the wingspan was 3.5 to 4 inches, maybe more. The white one was much smaller, at around an inch and a half. The brown one was also flapping its wings slightly while the white one was sitting still. My uneducated guesses were either some way of warming or cooling itself or trying to attract a mate.

Lucky you! The large was most likely a polyphemus moth. I get pretty thrilled when I see any around here. Not sure of the smaller one. I will see if I can come up with any ideas...

I was thinking that too after googling, but I wasn't sure since it didn't seem to have the big, purple eye spot. Although, I was looking at its under side. Thanks!
