Hi all, I love snakes and spiders but have a wacky phobia around frogs and toads, also used to freak out with grasshoppers but am getting better with that one. I will never harm a spider and at work when one is the toilets (generally they only notice the big ones) I get called to come and remove it. People think I am weird as I talk to them while gently trying to get them outside.
You mean if someone put a 5' rattler in your car it wouldn't bother you but a tree frog would send you screaming ?
I jumped out of my car as I drove it down my driveway when a frog jumped through the open window. I found one in my kettle, I put the kettle in a plastic bag, tied it tight, put it in another bag tied tight, put in the back of my ute, drove to the Vet's with a grip on the steering wheel that had my knuckles white. Raced in holding the bag at arms length screaming at them to take it. Luckily they know me and grabbed the bag so I could go outside and have a massive jitters attack. They rehome them for me. I had a snake slide over me in the car, I grabbed my dog out of the way (I was not driving) yelled for the driver to stop and we all exited the car, I then checked to see if it was still in the car. I would avoid a snake but they don't have me in jitters like frogs do.
Well. I have bug phobia, especially spiders. My deal is, stay out of my living space, and I won’t have to kill ya. I don’t like frogs but I won’t touch them, either! Snakes, I’m fine, just careful not to get a bite.
Part of it is, I have a severe reaction to any insect bite, so I avoid them.
i always move them.
I leave them be unless they are poisonous .
@Besalbub i mean if i have too because someone else mite hurt them.
@LeighShelton When I moved down south 35 yrs ago I saw a copperhead and killed it , I regretted it afterwards .
@Besalbub i understand
As far as normal human behavior goes, you are weird, but I love the oddball, frequently-maligned/ feared creatures. I often relocate snakes from areas where they would be in danger. That doesn't disturb most people until they discover that I even "rescue" venomous snakes. I won't kill spiders either.
The frog, toad, grasshopper phobia is unusual. Phobias aren't really rational though. How do you feel about bats? I like bats, but most people are repulsed by them.
I am fine with bats, I had my house open and micro bats flew in, (think flying mice) I carefully guided them into one area with a door to the outside so they could get out. A few landed in my hair while I was doing this, I raced outside and shook my head to get them off outside. Caught some in a fishing net. Our bats can have the lyssa virus and the general rule is if you are bitten the bats is destroyed to discover if it has the virius, I decided if one bit me I would let it go and then go to the hospital and just take all of the shots (painful but I am not having an animals put down because it was frightened) I learnt to walk slowly when they were all swooping under my verandah and they avoided me. I thought they were cute.
humans are the really dangerous creatures

Posted by InsectraA cute grey treefrog (Hyla versicolor) that I found in my birch tree, this afternoon. His camouflage was great and I only discovered him when I heard him calling.
