Mama red squirrel getting a little extra calcium from an old fragment of deer bone. I knew they would eat bones and antlers but this is the first time I have witnessed it.

i didn't know! so squirrels are omnivores, not nutcrackers 😀

Great photos! I have a skull I found in Missouri, with evidence of this activity on the antlers... But, I've never seen it happening. Excellent catch!

Do gray squirrels do that as well? I've never seen or heard of that before.
