i love almost all critters (excepting leeches & such), but for this very reason - 24/7 responsibility re food & shelter - i am very much in favor of freedom for all, which excludes pet ownership.

@AmiSue, i totally understand the dilemma when it comes to all kinds of existing pet or farm animals. it would take a very slow easing off of the interdependence of humans & non-human animals, probably generations. then again, so many things we take for granted these days took a long while to develop into being - just think of women's fight for freedom from male dominion.. we have to start somewhere, & personally i care too much for animals to ever want one depending on what i am capable to dole out in food, affection & activity.
