Which brand is the best food for a 2 1/2 years old cat?
I feed him dried food but I was told by a vet. Iam's is not good.
Aldi's sells superior food under their own brand at about 1/5 the price....compare to Merrillat or other premium brands...I took the ingredient label to my vet and she was impressed .
I have never seen an Aldi store in my area.
@duchessa1 check their website for a store locator, you can easily cut 25% off your bill and their quality is high, for examples NO GMO's in the food (they are a Germany-based company and that is the law there) and a lot of their produce is organic for less too.
@annewimsey1 Thanks, I checked. The three closest stores are all in The Bronx....but they deliver. Great. Thanks.
It may depend a bit on how finicky you and/or your cat are. I've gone through phases of feeding specialty vet food, but my last cat was fine with dry grocery store food so I did a lot of that. She was a grazer who didn't over-indulge, so I just kept food in her bowl. As she got older, I would add in pate-type food as a treat, and when she was hitting 20, her teeth bothered her so I switched to the broth food. My two grand-kitties have different eating styles so it takes more planning. I think just like us they have different preferences, and that can change with age. Has your cat started going off their food?
Thanks....I have fed him only 9 Lives....and sometimes small pieces of hot dog....but lately he is vomiting a bit. Which brand of dried food do you use. My late cat lived 22 years with dried food. but I think Lucas is different.
@duchessa1 Oh, you got one year more with yours - mine lived to 21 and it's still hard to believe she's gone. Totally trashy here, though: she ate Meow Mix with tender centers, and canned pate (probably Friskies? But no chunks.). I think it was easier for her to digest. I hope that's all it is with Lucas. He's so young to be having tummy troubles, so maybe it will pass on it's own.
@duchessa1 What is the vet saying about the vomiting?
@itsmeagain This happened two days ago....no vet visit yet.
I go with what my cats will eat, & it's always changing.
Mine never rejected 9 Lives but I will try others. Thanks.
I feed my cat Friskies, she seems to like it.
Thanks. Another one to try.
I don't mean to sound snarky, but some cats are "discerning" when it comes to food. Then which ever brand is best is which brand that they will eat. My cats like and do well on one of the big grocery store brands, and I don't remember what brand that is. One will only eat the dry food. I also feed Friskies canned pate. I put it down in the morning, the younger cat will eat it, and she eats the dry food for the rest of the day. Keep fresh water out at all times. My cats are about 8 years old and 6 years old.
