Pet it and if it follows you home feed it and care for it letting it out so it can go home if it wants.
As long as it is not Elizabeth, my daughter and son-in-law's cat. Elizabeth is nearly pure back, and does not like strangers. She will likely try to take a chunk of you off. Even when I was at her house daily and FED her for several weeks, she did not warm up to me.
Our two aren't real good with strangers. But, feed them... friends for life.
