10 Reasons Why People Want Kids (and 10 Reasons They Don't) [wehavekids.com]
Having a kid was never something I wanted. Even from an early age, my relatives were surprised how the idea of having a kid was repulsive to me. It still is, though now it is tempered by some actual reasons (resources, not wanting to give up elements of my life, just thinking they are icky, etc.). My sister has kids, so any potential for my genetics has already been passed on. But thank you for sharing the article, it was interesting to read (and a highlighted on as well).
My reason: I am selfish and did not want the never ending responsibility of raising and caring for a child. I knew I wanted to travel, have a progressively upward career, and not share myself with others who are in a child's life (teachers, parents, etc.). I have never regretted my decision.
If you think you're selfish, I think breeders are guilty of a different sin: vanity. I can't think of any other motivator for people to make copies of themselves.
Then again, there are people who have kids simply because they succumb to social pressure. And I'm not just talking about those creepy child bride societies.
