I've asked a bunch of women with grown kids the following:
Most of them say no.
If I could go back in time and choose to have children knowing what I know now, would I?
My answer is NO.
I wouldn't wish having kids on my worst enemy. Looking at the costs (implicit and explicit, financial and otherwise), it's no wonder so many religious have historically said it is a duty to have kids... many people might have opted out if that wasn't the case.
Religion had zero to do with it for me, just perceived family pressure. The duty is obvious now. Need to create more tithers. It might have made sense a few hundred years ago.
I never wanted them. I don't remember any explicit pressure and once my sisters had kids, any implicit pressure dropped below zero. My wife (now ex) came with me to watch the procedure. Zero regrets...
I love my dog but wouldn't be willing to deal with a puppy. I always adopt adult dogs.
Hell no!!! I have my fur kids and that's all i need.
It is indeed a lifelong commitment...most of my friends now are still involved with grandkids...we never go to any kid events with them...time to cultivate friendships with kid-free folks so we can do adult things now...and, I have never regretted my decision to not have kids...I love the stress free life and my time and money.
