I worked at the state penitentiary here, I had a guy in group serving life without parole for stealing a $159 jacket. He was a multiple offender, but had no violent crimes- the other 2 convictions were car burglary. Thankfully the state legislature passed legislation giving non violent lifers parole eligibility, but they still have to serve way too many years before they are eligible. [blackyouthproject.com]
