Cole Porter’s. I Got You Under My Skin. - Mel Torme.....this man had a velvet voice.
My first encounter with this song was Neneh Cherry's cover in the 1990 compilation album, "Red Hot + Blue". It features contemporary artists covering Cole Porter compositions.
One of my favorite memories about the album is that it provided a rare bonding opportunity for me and my mom. (Yes, I chose to not use "my mother and I".)
She knew the songs--which were alien to me--whereas I knew many of the artists--of which probably none were familiar to her. She didn't love all the interpretations, particularly when too many artistic liberties were taken (Cherry's version--which I'm not exactly crazy about, either--is a good example), but she discovered and fell in love with the voices of Sinéad O'Connor (the main--if not the sole--reason I bought the album) and k.d. lang.
Here they are. I hope you enjoy them. No presh, ha ha.
Thank you for posting these two.....the second one by k.d,Lang is one I sing myself and You Do Something to Me and I’ve Got You Under My Skin I sing with my choir. I love k.d. and this rendition is a particular favourite. He was a genius songwriter and last Saturday we sang a compilation of his songs including Let’s Do It and I’ve Got You Under My Skin. You sound like you had a great time with your mom, and it’s lovely you have such lovely memories of sharing each other’s music. I like Sinead O’Connor too and haven’t heard her sing this before...so thanks again.
