Just attended a mandatory company gathering where the first twenty minutes was basically a prayer meeting.
I attended a meeting at my 's college. Nothing important, but a speaker went to the podium and gave a talk, much like a preacher might give in church, complete with a moment of silence at the end of his talk. The sheer artificial-ness of it inspired me. At the end of the moment of silence, I stood and said, Praise the Lord, Amen. I am a cultural Christian. I know that it is all just ancient mythology, but 4 God's sake, its, in the main, harmless.
Another question to consider is this a government company, a government contractor, or a privatel company? Rights vary greater to lesser.
And how big is the organization? HR will have the company's policy and law. But be careful. I would start with FFRF, ALCU, or other.
John's right...you don't want to risk being considered ''uncooperative''....not at work. It's the same situation many women have been in at work, when they've been ''pressured'' by gropers/grabbers/harassers, etc. You need to keep quiet and see what happens. Do you know other people well? Might be interesting to look sweetly bewildered and ask the one you know best if they think the meeting opening was ''unusual." See where that goes. Good luck!
I use to work for a catholic hospital system. Started meetings w prayers. I complained and was told it was "spiritual " not religious.
I might not have SAID it....but I'd've thought about the ''spirit" of SATANNNNNNN!
That's a violation of your civil rights (and others). You should report it.
