It is courtesy to bring a personal towel to sit on. Not all persons keep their backside very clean, and even if they did clean well, there is always the possibility of a "juicy" fart.
Personally, I am a very clean person when it comes to hygiene. However, not everyone is. So, the idea of everyone bringing their own towel to sit on is a way to make sure nude recreation will be hygienic for everyone.
Ummm, I do know why you carry those towels, to avoid sitting on/in each other's goo, females especially need to be very careful.
The function of, oh, i dunno, Underwear..........?
