This is a giant yellow swallowtail caterpillar on common rue. I am looking forward to following the metamorphosis through to completion, especially because it will be my first giant yellow
This is a very convenient type of container to use, and thrift stores practically give them away. Note that it is turned upside down and placed on top of a dish. This makes it very easy to put fresh plants in and empty the waste. As with black Eastern swallowtails, make sure you place a piece of bark or branch into the container for the caterpillar to use to attach its chrysalis.
