For a start how about only allowing guns into the hands of someone who can demonstrate a valid NEED to have one, rather than someone who wants or even demand one. Then add in a requirement that the person is adequately stable, responsible and educated to be safe with it. The number of people meeting all those criteria is tiny.

Do what Canada did. They did it a decade ago but I doubt the US or any other western nations could emulate their solution.

Be more like the UK where you need to have an officer come in your house and verify that you have a proper gun safe. One is for the firearm, other is for ammo (can't be in the same safe). Lots of scandinavian countries require a mental exam.

If all I mentioned went into law today, we would not see a significant decrease in gun violence. Not in our life time anyways. There are far too many firearms in the US. They are so easy to get.

I agree with safe storage, is that your main focus?

@educatedredneck That's not the main focus. I'm more worried about people with mental instability, or people that don't know how to RESPECT a firearm. I was taught when I was 3 (yes three) to always keep a loaded firearm high or low centered. Even if you are 100% sure it is unloaded, treat it as if it is. NEVER point the business end towards a living creature unless you intend to kill it!

OT don't go hunting with Dick Cheney...

All Americans should be required to develop common sense.

Even as an American I must say we are a Redneck Nation. We value guns,God and Macho male Supremacy. Until that changes it'll take the light from where we are 250 Thousand Years to reach common sense.

MMB, if you can pull that off for ANY continent, you'll rule the world man.
