To me it doesn't really matter. What matters is what we have today and how we can push back.

It wasn't the only reason it was ratified, in the late 1700's when the founding documents were written a gun, for a lot of people, was the only way to keep from eating sticks and twigs. If someone in your family didn't own land, and you didn't live in town or have a paying job. Dinner required either a fishing pole or a gun. Having a gun also kept you from becoming some critters dinner. At that time a gun was a real survival tool. You had to worry about; Native Americans, wolves, bears, mountains lions, coyotes, if you lived in the south or the west, Mexicans ,alligators, long horn steers and panthers. Mighty handy to have a gun around and considering the lack of law enforcement, it could save you from people too.

FUCK THE 2ND AMENDMENT. I hope my perspective is clear enough... been clear for decades. I said Decades! And preservation of slaves chained to their masters was a big key. The term "RunAway Slave" is an amerikkkan invention after all.

I think this might be true of the South.

However I think a lot of it had to do with breaking off from England.

Of course I had fractured fairy tales for history so who knows? I'd have to ask someone who has studied history.
