I'll bet that 90% of members posting in this discussion have never held much less owned a firearm. I actually heard an idiot say on the radio the other day that assault weapons were designed to kill people. Tell me one gun that was not designed to kill people. Go ahead. I'll wait. And while you're at it please define the words assault-weapon. That way we all know what you're talking about.
I own several guns more than I use but I worked for a firearms wholesaler. The difference in an assault weapon and a sporting weapon is that it's design is for military use whereas the sporting is for sport. Sport being anything from target to hunting. The assault weapon can be used for target but as far as I know there is no state that allows game hunting with anything less than a 243 caliber projectile. Varmint hunting on the other hand is usually any caliber but the ar15 would not be a good choice for varmint in my option. Now with that said they are all deadly but so are bombs and cars all kinds of things. I'd like to see some restrictions because without any I believe this topic will soon go way the other way and people will call for a total ban because of the lack of common sense restrictions now.
I have shot a couple different guns, as I wanted to know how it felt, the power behind it and if it was simple or difficult to deal with. I remember my 1st thought was, "this is too easy". My second thought was "there should be more than just a safety to keep a gun from going off". While I'm for the 2nd amendment, the pro-gun crowd has taken it a bit far with the type of guns and accessories allowed to be legal to anyone 18 and over. They take any type of gun control legislation and scream "they're taking our guns". My opinion on that is be smart, not stupid. No one's taking them, they're just trying to make them safer to use for less casualties. I just can't believe the stupidity level of some people. And not all pro-gun people are stupid. Some want better laws on the books for background checks, age limits, and accessories that turn a legal gun into an illegal gun. The NRA has bought our congressional delegates who make the laws, and that needs to stop. That's why other laws need to change, but that's for a different discussion. Just my opinion though.
Thank You for your honest opinion.
