I kept wondering why, no matter What I said or how many times I said it, it always came down to the same argument, I'm a gun hater, and all I want to do is get rid of all guns, and repeal the 2nd amendment, none of which I have ever said. Assault weapons ban is a ploy and I secretly want to take guns away from law abiding citizens who just want to protect their family. Then I went to the NRA website, now I understand. The NRA and Trump are vilifying us to the extreme. They are lying their ass off. Pro-gun people are being told we're doing shit I never even thought of. I couldn't understand why so many pro gun people wouldn't give up a single bullet. The NRA is pounding it into their members heads that I secretly intend to take everybody's guns away and repeal the 2nd amendment, and they have to stick together, because I'm going to do whatever sneaky shit I can to get what I want, and I want to suppress any views that are different than mine. Now I know where all the hate is coming from.
You know... You wanting to regulate only some gun is fine but the ultimate goal for the lefty authoritarians is to take all guns. They have been saying it openly for years. Your just help in the steps. You or anyone else has absolutely no right to determine how I defend myself, my family or my neighbors. It's a natural right the isn't granted by some dogooders or polititician. Your fear of the NRA is irrational and you buy into lies. Full disclosure: I am not a member of any political group or member of the NRA I am a anarchist
If you value your right to own firearms you should be a member of the NRA as without them we’d soon be stripped of that right especially with idiots like Obama.
Is the second amendment working out?
Depends on who you talk to, for them yes, for me no
@MikeFlora great, wise answer.
This shows you the power of propaganda and fear. These people have been on this band wagon too long to even think about another side. I found some gun mags. in our mag exchange at the library. The stuff in them was unbelievable. There must be real conflict between some of these people and their family's and certainly their kids.
Go over to the NRA and see what they are saying about us. The NRA is why we aren't getting anywhere and why they don't want to give up 1 bullet. They have convinced people that no matter what we say, all we want to do is take everybody's guns and repeal the 2nd amendment and we'll do anything to get there.
No, it's just that regular people understand that a law against killing doesn't stop murder. So why should they allow themselves to become defenseless when the police have shown that they can't protect people?
Also disarmament is the first step towards tyranny, not the tyranny that liberals believe we live under now. I'm talking real tyranny at the hands of dictators or criminals.
What's wrong with people who want to live, arming themselves with the tools to protect themselves? Gun laws only restrict law abiding citizens at the end of the day because they are the only ones who follow them. Laws don't stop crime, they deter it slightly but at the end of the day if someone want's to shoot up a school, they will shoot up a school. It's be easy for a kid to shoot up a school in Australia if they really wanted to do it. All you need is $1 and a knife. Then you've easily got your hands on 2 guns and 90 rounds of ammunition. The only reason we don't have it is because most people who get social welfare or "benefits" get everything they need and want for free at the expense of the middle and upper class workers.
@Trajan61
If "a law against killing doesn't stop murder", then, by that same reasoning, should we revoke the law against murder? It's not stopping anyone.
Let's rescind ALL laws. Like you say, "only law abiding citizens follow them."
You just proved my point, I didn't say 1 word about what I want, I just said what the NRA is pounding into your head. Neither one of you has listened to anything I have said about what I want. Since you refuse to listen I refuse to talk, Think whatever you want too.
@dare2dream
You've misunderstood me. The law is only effective in deterring murder by law abiding citizens.
The problem is, murder is committed by criminals, people who don't abide by the law. So the law means nothing to murderers. Everyone who is a decent person knows it's wrong to kill someone unless in self defense. But criminals don't care.
A piece of paper saying murder is illegal is useless, the thing that actually stops criminals is guns. Police firearms or private citizen firearms stop criminals.
@Lancer : Decent people wouldn't commit murder or other crimes against others even if there were no laws on the books. Having laws on the books provides society with the tools to prosecute violators.
The thing that empowers criminals is guns.
@dare2dream
Here's a quote that I believe is somewhat relevant in this discussion.
"Remember what you said before? A normal person with a gun will wind up doing something he never thought himself capable of? No one in this world can truly hold himself separate from violence. Guns are literally within reach of anyone. Sadly that’s where we put our faith, in bullets rather than human kindness."
if we use your logic, guns also empower law abiding citizens to be able to defend themselves.
They are not good or bad, they are just a tool. If you disarm the law abiding citizens then you are signing their death warrant.
@Lancer If that's what you think, I'm glad I don't live in your neighborhood!
@dare2dream
As a responsible adult I take the safety of myself and my family as my first priority. That's not for everyone and I accept, their safety is 3rd, 4th or even 5th priority.
Many Americans can look around the world and see the crimes committed against the silent majority, the law abiding citizens being underrepresented who are tired of people who want to disarm them and use them as victim statistics. Other peoples lives are not a game, they just want to be able to defend themselves, I can respect that.
@Lancer Statistic show that more deaths are attributed to fires than homicides and home invasions. So, do you carry a fire extinguisher on your hip too?
@dare2dream
Well I keep one in the kitchen, laundry, garage and dining room along with a smoke hood under my bed and fire blankets in the kitchen.
So why wouldn't I store a gun in the house in case a criminals broke in?
Sadly, fear mongering is a very effective tool. ?
My opinion is that the NRA knows that fear sells. And contrary to what they try to tell people, they are a lobbying organization.
When the President Obama was in office, gun sales soared, because people were easily convinced the scary Black president was coming for their guns.
Now that President Obama is gone, the fear has subsided and guns sales are slumping. So now the NRA needs to trot out scary spokespeople like Dana Loesch, in an attempt to drive up the fear factor.
I've been shooting guns since I was 5 years old. They are a TOOL. If used properly they are good. But there is a massive chance for abuse. I'd prefer gun ownership be limited to single-shot or pump action unless someone maintained an annual license. That license would require a yearly court and mental check along with insurance.
I've been shooting since I was about 12. It used to be the NRA was all about training and safety, but now it's all about helping gun makers maximize profits. I can't imagine anyone needing an assault rifle to hunt - they should be banned. All guns should be licensed with passing a mental check and insured. I like your idea of limiting them to single-short & pump.
The varying approaches to gun regulation in different states prove that gun ownership can be restricted to responsible people in harmony with the second amendment, and that many people including the judges in the Supreme Court agree with this idea. I support more exacting requirements because obviously too many legally acquired guns are being used to kill too many innocent people and to terrorize the rest of us. Most of us wouldn’t want to live in the Wild West or in world like the one depicted in Mel Gibson and Charlize Theron’s ? “Road Warrior” movies.
Certainly, any form of generalization will neglect differences in the individual. There are many degrees of gun control, just as there are many degrees of being pro-gun. Personally, I'd fit into the pro-gun label, but I don't really care what Trump or the NRA have to say on the subject.
It's what they are saying about us and what we want to do
Yeah no surprise here. They keep people thinking those thoughts because fear of us will keep them on their side
While I respect your right to your opinion,
I feel completely the opposite. I think everyone should be armed. And, this isn't a joke.
The NRA lies and lies.
No it's not, I have 2 shotguns and I want to keep them. The NRA is lying to you about us, but you are never going to believe me over them. I'm not going to try.
