My second favorite: O Fortuna -- Carmina Burana
by Carl Orff; performed in Maastricht in 2012 by
the Johann Strauss Orchestra under Andre Rieu
Here is a performance by the Berlin Radio Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly where the lyrics are also given on screen in English.
What is your favourite before O Fortuna?
Also have listen to Orff's Schulewerk. Here is "Ecstatic Dance"
@FrayedBear Loved the Choreography!
@GipsyOfNewSpain I now believe that at primary school one I think that one my my teachers used the Schulewerke with us because when I heard it 60 years later it all sounded like an friend.
Fabulous piece. Played Carmina Burana so many times I got tired of it. After not hearing it for a while right back in love with it but won't make the same mistake twice (at least not this one).
Loved the Act, very powerful but my "Evil Eyes" Noticed the Male lead singers had the same tuxedo while the Female lead singers were allowed to use different dresses.
Great music by Carl Orff...I’ve actually sung Carmina Burana a few times. The last time was in a Choirs of The World event in Dublin at the National Rugby Stadium where there were massed choirs from all over the world and the RTE National Symphony Orchestra....it was very stirring stuff...exhilarating!!
Dang that's impressive! I love that selection even though I know nothing of its history. I'll have to Wikit and find out more about it. Andre Rieu's staff and program coordinators can put on a fabulous performance. It's past my time, but I would have loved to have been able to have attended one of their performances!
@Justme43 yes...I’ve only seen him perform on TV or YouTube. I think a live show would be a memorable experience.
@Marionville I agree. Unfortunately for me, growing up here in rural Kentucky, I never was exposed to much music other than country, and then on TV Rock 'n Roll. I always enjoyed easy listening music. I did see a Ray Coniff concert at our local University back in the 60s, and that's about it.
@Justme43 It’s great that we now have YT to catch up and watch performances from decades ago that we’d never have had a chance to see,
